Downtown Saugatuck is almost the only city in the Midwest that has its downtown completely preserved. While some shops may look different than they were fifty years ago, the general layout of the city (the grid), the old buildings and most importantly the atmosphere has not been altered. Although it is a popular summer destination for tourists, Saugatuck is still a city that you will not be able to find any fast food store or H&M. I really admire the collective effort of the people of Saugatuck for preserving their beautiful town.
